Janell owns & operates 2 farming operations: Blue Owl Garden Emporium, an herb farm (2002), and Blue Owl Hollow, a forest farm (1998). She has been farming full-time since 2005 and began selling at market in 2008. In 2007 she began cultivating mushrooms and grows medicinal and culinary mushrooms primarily on logs, or occasionally on wood products such as wood mulch or sawdust. They currently have around 1000 logs in "production". These logs are harvested directly from our forest farm as part of their on-going forest stewardship plan. Mushroom varieties include: shiitake, wine-cap, a couple kinds of oyster, maitake, mukitake, nameko, chestnut, reishi, lion's mane, and blewitt.
